Print Making

Image
Project Description: This project was created with ink. We started by drawing a picture of an animal in a certain environment on a small peice of paper. Once we had it drawn, we then taped to to a styrofoam sheet. The drawing was then traced on the paper so that it engraved the styrofoam to leave a print on it. The tracing on the paper may not have left a deep enough engraving on the styrofoam, so we then had to take the paper off and go over what we traced again pushing a little bit harder into it. But we didn't push to hard to make a whole. Once the engraving was done, I got some gray ink and rolled it onto the styrofoam. Once I got enough ink on it, I then flipped it over and placed the inked side on another bigger piece of paper. A roller was used to make sure the ink got on the paper to see the drawing. I got a jungle environment, so I drew an elephant. I used gray because elephants are gray. Extension Activity: When learning about differnet environments and biomes, the stude...

Clay

Image
Project Description: Air dry clay was used to make this. We were all given a chunck of clay to work with.  The chunck that we were given was split in half. One half was set aside to work with later. The other half was rolled into a ball and then shaped into a bowl using our thumb and index finger. Once the bowl was done, we flipped it over and put the open area on the bottom.  Small pieces were taken from the one half that we had set aside. The small pieces were rolled up to look like snakes. They were then flattened to kind of look like leaves. The leaves were attached to the closed end of the bowl using the scoring and slipping method. Once the desired amount of leaves were added, then it was painted. I colored the leaves two shades of green because not all leaves on a plant are the same shade or tint of green. I then painted the base blue because blue is my favorite color. Extension Activity: This extension activity could be linked to Earth Day as well. Instead of giv...

Paper Snake

Image
Project Description: I had a big sheet of construction paper that was purple. I used two stencils to create the strip for the head and tail. The rest of the paper was cut into strips to use to create the body. I used purple because it is my mom's favorite color and I use blue for every thing. White and black paint was used to create the eyes on the snake as well as adding pattern to the body of the snake. Extension Activity: If there is a jungle theme either in the classroom or throughout the whole school, the snakes could be made by each student. The snakes would then get hung from the ceiling to look like snakes reaching down from tree branches. A fun way to incorporate the students into decorating the classroom.

Water Painting

Image
Project Description: This painting was created after looking at Van Gough's sunflower painting using watercolors. I drew a vase sitting on a table.  The vase was painted purple with red painted on it while it was still wet. This is called wet on wet. The table was painted brown and then I used the back of the paint bruch to make marks in the paint. This is called scaffito. The flower pedals and stems were painted with flat wash. The center of the flowers was painted brown with salt poured on it to create a texture in the middle of the flowers. Extension Activity: This type of activity could be linked to Earth Day or Spring. The flowers could be a sign of life and the Earth being healthy. Students will be asked to draw a vase and add flowers to the top of it.

Hidden Safari

Image
Project Description: A picture of an animal was looked at and drawn upside down. The animal was drawn in a blue colored pencil.  After it was drawn, I used warm colors, red, yellow, and orange to draw lines and shapes over the top of the animal that was drawn. This was done to try and hide the animal that was drawn so that we could only see it with a special pair of classes. At the bottom on a notecard, I wrote some hints to try to help figure out the animal before using the special sunglasses. Extension Activity: Using this for a language arts lesson. Writing sight words or spelling words in blue and then using the warm colors over the top to hide the word for the students to guess and figure out it.

Drawing Lesson

Image
Project Description: The first photo is the one I created and the second one is all of the art works put together. The first one: In four squares I was to draw images that represnted different aspects of my life. In the upper left hadn box I drew a board game, someone running, a basketball and cards because I love to play sports and games. The arrows show that I like to move when playing these games. The upper right hand box I drew a dog because I love my dog so much. I added wavy yellow lines behind it because he makes me happy and is actually a yellow lab instead of a brown lab. In the bottom left hand box I drew a tie blanket because it is something that helps me remember my mom. I drew hards with halos above them because she passed away and I still love her. In the bottom right hand box I drew flowers in a pot because in the spring I like to plant flowers and then take care of them throughout the summer. Swirls were drawn because they make me happy and excited when they bloom....
