Water Painting

 Project Description:

  • This painting was created after looking at Van Gough's sunflower painting using watercolors.
  • I drew a vase sitting on a table. 
  • The vase was painted purple with red painted on it while it was still wet. This is called wet on wet.
  • The table was painted brown and then I used the back of the paint bruch to make marks in the paint. This is called scaffito.
  • The flower pedals and stems were painted with flat wash.
  • The center of the flowers was painted brown with salt poured on it to create a texture in the middle of the flowers.

Extension Activity:

  • This type of activity could be linked to Earth Day or Spring. The flowers could be a sign of life and the Earth being healthy. Students will be asked to draw a vase and add flowers to the top of it.

 Project Description: I had a big sheet of construction paper that was purple. I used two stencils to create the strip for the head and tail. The rest of the paper was cut into strips to use to create the body. I used purple because it is my mom's favorite color and I use blue for every thing. White and black paint was used to create the eyes on the snake as well as adding pattern to the body of the snake. Extension Activity: If there is a jungle theme either in the classroom or throughout the whole school, the snakes could be made by each student. The snakes would then get hung from the ceiling to look like snakes reaching down from tree branches. A fun way to incorporate the students into decorating the classroom.

Van Gough Project

 Project Description:  The sky consists of yellow, orange, and blue colors. These colors were chosen to be used to give a bit of a sunset or sunrise look. Its tissue paper glued/painted onto a black construction paper. Another construction paper was used and had mountains cut out of it. After the mountains were cut out of the construction paper, it was then glued onto the big piece that has the tissue paper on it. It was put down after the glue/paint was dried on the tissue paper. Crayons and colored pencils were used to create the snow at the top of the mountains. Colored pencil was used to make the trees at the bottom of the mountains. Chalk was used to make swirls in the sky on the tissue paper which relates the project to Vincent Van Gough's Starry Night painting.   Exension Activity: An extension activity that could be done with this is in Social Studies.  Dot Activity Explanation: In the middle was supposed to be written "Be Positive." When writing it, I didn't push down hard enough with the crayon. I used blue in the middle thinking it would be dark enough to get the words to pop out. I used yellow on the outside so that there was some positive color.   Extension Activity: Coffee filters could be used in a math lesson. On each coffee filter a teacher could write a math problem on them in white crayon. Students would use a darker water color to figure out what the problem is on each coffee filter. Then students would solve them. It could be like a little scavenger hunt.
